Emer Maguire
Emer Maguire is an autistic musical comedian, writer, actor and broadcaster from Strabane, County Tyrone, now based in Belfast. She uses comedy, music and media to promote autism awareness and encourage greater understanding of neurodiversity.
She openly explores themes such as masking, social anxiety and late diagnosis, challenging stereotypes about autistic women through humour and storytelling. Her work has been described as blending stand-up with original music and relatable observations on modern life, often compared to an “Indie Victoria Wood.”
Emer was named by Channel 4 as one of the UK’s top emerging comedy talents and went on to develop her sitcom Socially Awkward, inspired by her experiences as an autistic adult. She works across television, radio and live performance as a presenter, performer and writer, and has become a distinctive voice in Northern Irish entertainment.
Her career gained early momentum after winning the 2015 FameLab science communication competition and making a sold-out Edinburgh Fringe debut with Hilarious Humans. Since then, she has sold out venues including the Ulster Hall and The MAC Belfast, toured across the UK and Ireland, and was nominated for a 2025 Sean Lock Comedy Award.
